For twenty years, professional audio has run on Dante. Stadiums, houses of worship, broadcast trucks, theaters, corporate AV — the industry standardized on it because it works: rock-solid, low-latency audio over IP, routed by the people who set up the rig.

And for twenty years, that audio has stayed jailed to the LAN. Walk it out the front door and the options were always the same — licensed hardware, a VPN, or a vendor's own event-gated cloud. Dante was built to move sound across a rack room. Reaching a phone in the parking lot, or a producer three states away, was never part of the design.

That's the jail. Not the protocol — the protocol is excellent. The building.

Why this is the point, not the plumbing

It's tempting to describe this as "audio-over-IP bridged to a WAVE transport." True, but that's how you make a useful thing sound like a spec sheet. Nobody in a control room cares which transport carries the bits. They care that the house feed is now a link they can text to anyone, and it plays.

That's the actual outcome: a Dante network that used to end at the building's edge now ends wherever there's a browser. A broadcast engineer stops asking IT to open a VPN tunnel for a remote producer. A house of worship stops running a hardware Dante-to-cloud box just to stream the sermon feed. A stadium ops team stops treating "get this to someone offsite" as a project.

What doesn't change

Dante is still audio, and it's still yours. WAVE doesn't touch your Dante license, doesn't sit between you and Audinate's ecosystem, and isn't a Dante Controller replacement.

The audio was always good. It was the reach that was missing.
